Peter Cried Fair and Balanced

In a move that surprised absolutely no one I’m familiar with, but apparently one that has caught a number of conservatives off-guard, Fox News has decided to air a documentary on Sunday night that presents the so-called “liberal take” on the issue of global warming. Apparently there will be a disclaimer denoting the one-sided view of the issue—but that’s clearly not the point.

Apparently this has irked a number of conservates. As reported, Chris Horner, a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a free-market environmental think-tank , commented, “While it is unfathomable that a reputable news network would air so blatantly a one-sided program regardless of any disclaimer, that the ‘fair and balanced’ network would put itself in the position of suspending its motto is stupefying.”

Stupefying to me is that anyone out there would believe that Fox News’ motto is anything more than lip service. This is yet another example in a daily array of examples underscoring that fact. The producers of Fox News have perfectly figured out the concept of telling the targeted audience, conservatives, exactly what it is they want to hear the way they want to hear it.

I have hopes that sometime in the future I’ll be able to find a real news channel that presents the news as it should be—free of corporate agenda and other fluff like entertainment value. It says a lot that, today, the most fair and balanced news available on TV comes from “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”
